 個別論文 (Individual Paper): 每篇口頭發表的論文應為具原創性之完整研究,發表時間為30分鐘,包括510分鐘的問答時

   間。

 Individual Papers: Papers are formal presentations on original and complete research within a 30 minute period, including 5 to 10 minutes for discussion.

 

 主題論壇 (Panel discussion):每場論壇由34位學者參加,針對特定主題進行90分鐘的討論。論壇召集人請提交摘要描述

   論壇主題,包含每位與會者之論點聲明。
  Panel Discussion: A panel is formed by 3 or 4 scholars centering their discussion on a particular topic within 90 minutes. The panel organizer should submit an abstract delineating the theme of the panel, including each panelist’s statement explaining his/her standpoints.

 

 工作坊 (Workshop):為時45分鐘,以教學示範或是教材運用為主,並提供與會者主動參與的機會。每場工作坊的摘要需包括 工作坊之展示目的及工作內容。
 Workshops: Workshops give opportunities for demonstrations of teaching or use of materials in a 45 minute timeframe. The audience is expected to be actively involved. The abstract should include the purpose of the demonstration and the tasks to be performed. 

 

 論文海報 (Poster):海報請以有利於資訊傳遞之視覺方式呈現,即以圖表為主。每位論文發表人將有60分鐘的討論時間。

 Posters:  Posters are especially effective for information that can be presented visually (e.g., charts, graphs, tables, diagrams). During the hour-long (60 minutes) poster presentation period, the presenters will be available to answer any questions about their projects.

TRAINING IN TRANSLATION PEDAGOGY.

講題:語料庫翻譯學研究的主要問題

語料庫翻譯學研究的主要問題

北京外國語大學  王克非

語料庫翻譯學研究無外乎兩大類。一是雙語語料庫的研製,一是基於語料庫的研究。基於雙語對應語料庫的研究有四個主要方面(以漢、英兩種語言為例),即:1)原生漢語(original Chinese)與原生英語(original English)對比;2)原生漢語/英語與翻譯漢語/英語(translated Chinese/English)比較;3)源文本與目標文本對比,即通常的翻譯比較;和4)不同語言翻譯文本比較,如漢語翻譯文本與英語翻譯文本的比較,是翻譯語言比較研究。第1)方面即通常意義上的雙語對比研究,可作為翻譯研究的基礎;第2)方面屬於單語類比研究,可觀察翻譯語言特徵;第3)方面即通常的翻譯研究;第4)方面是不同翻譯語言的比較研究,包括翻譯特徵及共性研究。以上四方面研究都是語料庫翻譯學研究要點,所需語料均可由雙語/多語平行語料庫提供,如我們早年研製的“北外通用漢英平行語料庫”。雙語對比是翻譯研究的基礎,翻譯研究反過來又可以為雙語對比提供特殊的語料資料。

除上之外,語料庫翻譯學還有其他相關研究。例如,基於雙語對應語料庫的雙語詞典編纂,基於雙語對應語料庫的翻譯教學研究,基於雙語語料庫的翻譯文體研究,口譯語料庫的研製與應用,各類專門語料庫的研製與應用,各類特殊語料庫的研製與應用。

各類語料庫的研製是語料庫翻譯學的另一大類,它會為語言和翻譯的研究帶來許多新便利和新課題,但也面臨不少發展中的問題。如:1)語料庫規模較小,代表性有限。2)語料庫種類偏少,還有空白待填。3)研究問題有些紮堆,拓展不夠。4)共時研究為主,歷時研究未受重視。

鑒於以上問題,我們考慮新的語料庫研究架構,即研製新型歷時複合語料庫,以考察翻譯語言與原生語言間的相互關係和語言發展問題。這就是平行語料庫與類比語料庫、參考語料庫等的綜合考慮,複合使用。平行語料庫用以分析源語對譯語的影響,類比語料庫主要收集翻譯文本和目標語原生文本,用以考察譯語對原生語言的可能影響。參考語料庫收集受翻譯影響前的原生語言文本,以比較觀察翻譯前後語言的變化。這在考察現代漢語發展變化過程中得到初步應用。這些是語料庫翻譯學研究的主要問題或課題。

 

王克非教授

北京外國語大學博士(1993),教授(1997- ),博士生導師(2001- ),學報《外語教學與研究》(教育部名刊)主編(1999- ),教育部人文社科重點研究基地“中國外語教育研究中心”常務副主任,北京外國語大學“英語語言文學”國家重點學科英漢語比較與翻譯研究方向和翻譯學博士點學科帶頭人,校學術委員會委員。曾三十餘次應邀赴國外境外大學或研究機構從事研究和講學。主要研究領域為語言學和翻譯學。主持過包括國家社科基金重大專案在內的10個國家級、省部級科研專案。主要著述有《中日近代對西方政治哲學思想的攝取》、《翻譯文化史論》、《雙語對應語料庫:研製與應用》、《語料庫翻譯學探索》、《國外外語教育研究》等,在國內外發表論文120多篇。

WANG Kefei, doctor and professor of linguistics and translation studies, has been working for Beijing Foreign Studies University more than 27 years. He is now deputy director of the National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education at BFSU and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Foreign Language Teaching and Research. He has published many books and articles in his major interesting area, including A Cultural History of Translation(1997), English-Chinese Parallel Corpus: Its Compilation and Application(2004), Approaches to Corpus-based Translation Studies(2011), etc., most of which are grant aided by the National Social Sciences Fund or the Ministry of Education, China.

講題:The Politics of Chinese-Uyghur Translation Flows and the Balancing Act of PhD Student and Interpreter

Abstract

First half: As China strives to project itself on the international stage as a modern global power, on the domestic front it continues to grapple with the perceived threats from Taiwan, Tibet, and Xinjiang to its carefully constructed image of Chinese national unity. By observing the translation flows of the Chinese-Uyghur language pair as recorded in UNESCO’s Index Translationum, and comparing those flows with the trends in violent incidents and unrest in the Xinjiang region as documented by Xinjiang scholars, my research aims to highlight the sociopolitical role of translation and explore the following questions: Do the publication trends of certain translated genres correspond with the fluctuation of violence? Are there correlations? Or do they not seem to have an impact? My hypothesis is that in the context of China-Xinjiang relations, the translation of texts between the two is not a means to intercultural communication. Here translation functions in favor of the party in power. It does not exist as a “Third Space” of empowerment, nor is the periphery translating on the basis of its own agency. It is not about “communication”—that long-held virtue of translation that popular notion would have us believe—rather, it operates under its guise.

Second half: Translations are not produced in a vacuum, neither is a doctoral thesis. This part of the talk will focus on the tribulations that accompany any graduate student as they attempt to complete a thesis that is at once divorced from the realities of the immediate world, but whose writer’s immediate reality depends upon its completion. In my particularly case, I will be talking about trying to balance the life of a freelance interpreter for Canada’s federal government with that of a graduate student researching a topic that has nothing to do with the content of her profession—except for the unflattering fact that neither translation nor interpretation is necessarily about “communication.”

About the Speaker

Nancy Tsai is currently pursuing her PhD in Translation Studies at the University of Ottawa, Canada. She holds an MA in Translation and Interpretation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and an MFA in literary translation from the University of Iowa. Though originally trained as an English teacher at National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan, she has since split her professional time between (literary) translation and conference interpreting.
